This is awkward.
I mean, I don’t even think this is appropriate. But I got here, so let’s just see how this goes.
From a guy to another, Alden, let me just start off with this: I know how you operate. In some way or another, all men are practically the same. We guard our feelings well. We use ambivalence and show disinterest even though we really like our girl. This is our defense mechanism. Back in our minds we know we must have a fall back position in the unfortunate eventuality that it does not work out too well. And the way we do that is to make it appear that we were not really that interested in the first place. Yeah, let’s be honest, even for just this once.
Some girls might find this a little bit sexist- I apologize and please understand that this is not my intention. This is what happens when we are too sincere- people sometimes get hurt. Nonetheless, let me elaborate on what I was going for.
Men usually use the same approaches when it comes to courtship. The most common of which is the giving of gifts. We don’t really know if girls fall for it, we know there are some that get offended, but most often than not, they do their job well. We can’t help it. I even dare say it is a human instinct, on the part of a man at least, to catch the attention of women by giving gifts. These gifts may cost a lot of money or they may not cost anything at all, but a gift is a gift is a gift. Believe me, men throughout history did some pretty grave things just to accomplish this. I remember I had to save up two weeks worth of my school allowance just so I can buy a gift for the girl that caught my affection. Did she actually like it? I don’t know. But I was proud of myself for being able to sacrifice hungry days just to get my girl something that she can remember me by.
Now back to what I was driving at.
This was the same approach you used, Alden. I saw what you did there. You started showering Maine with flowers, chocolates, teddy bears, food and whatnot. Oh, I know, your good looks alone can get you any girl that you want, but as men are as men will be- you chose to work it.
And the effect was undeniable. The look on Maine’s face, her demeanor, whenever she gets surprise gifts from you, is very revealing. Or her act is too good, well maybe. But anybody can see, there is something in her smile, in the sparkle of her eyes that says she appreciates the thoughtfulness. The more you press your charm the more she responds- like a child giggling every time she beholds her very first crush.
You have ensnared her. You were right there, Alden. You had her from the get-go. This was all too easy.
Until you got tested.
In one episode, Lola Nidora asked if you were already serious about your feelings, not with Yaya Dub, but with Maine. You hid behind your pillow and avoided a straight answer. (Edited: Credit to Kathleen)
Everybody gasped! That was a total letdown! That hurt like hell, man!
You messed up. BIG TIME.
I’m sure you saw the look on Maine’s face in the background, the disappointment was very apparent. I could have sworn she was secretly hoping that you would say, or at least “ACT” in the affirmative. That would have sealed the romance. But no, you chose to be playful about it.
Later that day, Maine took to twitter and said everybody should be calm and you two were just out there to make the fans happy, which you reiterated on your own twitter post. That same night, Maine posted a “sigh”.
Maybe I was a bit over dramatic. Maybe I just read into it a little bit deeper than I probably should have. That sigh could mean a million different things. Why I chose to relate that post with what happened earlier in the day, I don’t know. I just did.
But the following days Maine began to drift away. I sensed it. We all sensed it. I know that you sensed it. She was not the same. She regressed to the Yaya Dub character that the audience began to feel it, the acts became a bit humdrum, monotonous. The spark is no longer there.
But I give you credit you are one hell of a charmer! You started opening up and enamored her back where you want her to be. You begin to let your guard down and people started reading into you. You showed sincerity like you never did before. Maybe you realized this was something that can work out? I’m not sure. But you are that good, man.
The most apparent show of your real emotions happened during your first meeting. The spark between the two of you was unquestionable. Epic. The whole fandom was ecstatic, thrilled, and very thankful to have witnessed something that is quite possibly as real and as fascinating as the first ray of sunshine in the morning.
Maine later said, “It was nice seeing you…. so nice. I am very glad.” That was as honest an impression as it can be. I was captivated by the fact that she said a very simple phrase but dang! That hit the right spot! To which you responded quite casually, “Nice seeing you too, sayang hindi man lang ako naka shake hands sayo.” I was like, really? That’s it? That was your reply? You can do better than that! Oh well, maybe it was just me and my penchant for words that are overly melodramatic.
After that moment you came out a different man. We can sense the change in you. I can sense the change in you. Funny how well men can relate with other men- the more you wanted to hide your real feelings, the more they became very ostensive. You now wear your heart out on your sleeve. The second meeting proved that point, you were overcome with the moment and you bared your soul. We saw a different person in you, Alden- we saw Richard Reyes Faulkerson, Jr.
On your 2nd monthsary episode, a few days before your “first date” with Maine, you got caught red-handed again, with those really catchy clichés you did with your fan signs. Oh man, was I proud! I could have screamed at the top of my voice: Alden, you rock! And with this was a fervent prayer: Don’t you dare mess this up, man. Take really good care of this very precious princess. You don’t know how lucky you are.
The 12.1M day came. You looked dazzling, she was exquisite! Everybody was rooting for the both of you to finally get some time to talk with each other, to laugh together, to at least touch each other’s hand. But all that transpired fell short of our modest expectations. Were we disappointed? Hell yes! But eventually, we understood the reasons. That’s just us, the all too faithful fandom. We endure.
You were disappointed too, I can tell. I’m judging, yes, but come on man, maglolokohan pa ba tayo? The segment ended with you writing, “So close yet so far”. And I could swear I heard an alarm clock ringing, screaming for me to wake up from this all too familiar dreamy act. Isn’t that a tad bit too shabby, Alden? That line has been abused too many times, for too long. It was a bit inadequate, to tell you the truth. What with all emotions running high all over the world. And all over twitter world! Hah!
Then you wrote this: “But it was really nice seeing you” And that, my man, swept me off my feet! Suddenly, those same words from Maine after you first met flashed back in front of my eyes! It’s simplicity is what made it stupefying. It was so sincere my eyes welled up in horripilation!
There it is, in all its glory, the final validation. Dude, she got you! Nicomaine Dei Capili Mendoza got you real good! ~ Vilo
Really well-written! Btw, what’s your take when Alden wrote “Ready na ko” on their 2nd monthsary?

This article of yours caught me off guard because I’m a woman and I should not be agreeing w/ your insights of Alden but no, I found myself agreeing to you whole heartedly. why? because I see what you have seen and I felt what you must have felt while watching this said events, sometimes I feel like I’m not totally a woman to feel this acute on men’s perspective. hahaha… siguro it comes in experienced in dealing w/ men in my family, certain friends and exes to make me this so a tune to your psych or it just my imagination running amok w/ my emotions but as you’ve said I feel the disappoint of maine in that one instant when Alden said aktingan lang eto. haist how it hurts me too. too dash my feelings like that as if it was nothing. But I also understand Alden he is in a situation wherein he is battling w/ himself and come up empty on how to proceed. He is a gentleman, no question about it but in my experienced w/ men they are not that showy in a sense that you can’t be so sure if they are doing it because they loved doing it or they have to. hahaha now I’m confuse.

Must I say, you wrote this piece well… Hmmmn excellent! The insights were spot on… I would have to agree to every point you mentioned…. And thus is exactly what made this twosome a phenomenon.
The way their emotions would show amidst the supposed to be story line they need to follow, how audiences were hooked on the never ending mystery of onscreen romance vs is it becoming real…. How the joke “aktingan lang toh, uyy! ” would mean something out of acting maybe happening….
I never have followed an artist before, foreign or local… But the way I followed every article, feature, shows and posts about ALDUB, makes me wonder…. So this is how it is to be a fan!?! Oh yes! I’m a fan

Alden’s “ready NA ako” line was something really meaningful and deep, at least for me. As you can see, I ellaborated the word “NA”. We all know the background of the two, and being on the least part, Alden acknowledges to himself in front of everybody else, specially to Maine’s family, that he is now ready. He wasn’t ready before. But he is now. In what terms he’s ready? First and foremost, financially. He can’t face the king empty handed. With all the success AlDub is having, Im sure Alden has been paid up well. Blessings. And this financial establishment gives him the courage to ask for Maine’s hand. We know that ALL fathers ask… “Kaya mo bang buhayin ang anak ko?” And NOW he can answer it with dignity and honour. That is why he approached Maine’s family and make MANO to her nanay and tatay. Next, his emotional attachment to his mom. He wants to clear things with himsef that he falls for this girl not only because she can replace the fun his mom brought before. And so he stalked her, right from the start he investigated her, tried to know all the details about her, asked the staff what she was like off cam, her favorites. He became obsessed with her and confessed “I’m your number 1 fan”. Lastly, he wants Maine to really see he’s not in character anymore. That 2nd monthsary had so much to reveal. 1 is when he was singing his song, he wanted Maine to recognize he is singing live. Why? Because from the last part of the previous episode, he dubbed it, and sources said offcam, Maine wished Alden could sing it live. And so did he! After the handwritten letter in which the idea he stalked from Maine’s blog. 2 is when he was giving the cash prize to Lola Nena, he was in fact putting up a conversation with Maine. Repeatedly saying, Maine, Maine, binigay ko na kay Lola ha. Ok na Maine ha. It was his first time to tak directly to her. Check out how he smiled when Maine gave a thumbs up, since she cant speak. His excitement reminds me of my highschool years. When I do things just to be seen by the girl I had a crush on. And 3, flashy yet real, when he answerred “edi ngayon na” he couldn’t be more ready than that. And I do agree with your statement, that Maine got Alden realy really good.
I apologize if this writting is messy. Im doing this on my phone. The need to react instantaneously once ive read your astounding literature. Thsnks fot the time on reading my comment.

Hi!
Can I just add another observation in one episode, Friday September 18 to be exact. My Kuya and I were both watching the replay of that episode. And we were both shocked. We both know (aware) how protective Wally and Jose to Maine but we didn’t realized they will do it on National TV. It was like a massive hit to A and M most specially.
Remember LOLA’s advice which I felt out of script (idiot board): Alden, kung mag mamahal ka, mahalin mo ng Buo at ikaw YAYA wag kang aasa, kung masaktan ka man matuto kang bumangon ulit. Mahalin mo muna ang sarili.
It was definitely out of script because based on the story flow (if there was actually one from the past 2 months) A was supposed to be fully inlove with YAYA to a level that he will court her. So why that line? Right?
And that was it, the change in M’s face was so obvious. She made wacky faces and made fun of her self. She can’t even hide her disappointment. She was sarcastic when she asked “Maganda diba?” while looking like funny. I had a feeling that Jose and Wally were worried on how Maine will react on their date that’s why they went that far.
I’m still thankful for this show, atleast we are all aware that hindi na actingan toh. 🙂 Just my two cents.

I definitely agreed with your comment about Lola’s advice its like all of a sudden that Wally is talking to Maine not Yaya Dub. Alden is a good actor he can carry emotions through out of the screen and sometimes I can’t tell the difference if he is sincere or not. But like everyone agreed here that Maine is a genuine gal, she is not an actress and most of the time was caught off guard with Alden’s intense stare. I feel that she is just like a big fan of Alden. But now I’m really curious of what is going to happen that they will work now together in movies, endorsement, interviews etc……I hope Maine will not be like a doll that people are going to direct her what is the proper decorum in entertainment business. She is one of a million, she is unique the way she is that that is the main reason why people adores her, It’s not because she is physically beautiful, its just that we saw her personality and we got hook into her. That is why she is ideal dream girl of most of boys and men out there. Children look up to her just like their family. She is like one of the best public figure in the whole world…..(hehehe, because we Filipinos are scattered all over the world) I just wanted the best for their lives. Though I have s big doubt to Alden or Richard sorry my dear, but I was really amazed by your undeniable chemistry that hit the Philippines by storm; I hope both of you will not change because we are here to support you both with our 100%.
By he way thanks for writing this article with male perspective. Though I know we are just all over protective with Maine because she is a real heaven sent to us with all the issue happening in our negative world, here is she a light that give is hope to smile everyday.

When I watched that episode I also thought more on true to life yung payo ni Lola Nidora. Ang I really like when Jose said “sapukin ko yang mukha mo”. He is mirroring those fans whose willing to kill/protect Maine. Maine has an Army! Also I think the staff of EB specially yung mga nakakasama ni Maine, is/will be protective of her. Alden is really difficult to read. Playing safe I guess. I love them both but I’m more on Maine on this one.

Another great piece! You are on point. When Alden flashed the “But it was nice seeing you” sign, something serendipitous came full circle. Yin & yang. Alpha & omega. A redemption of sorts. Like you, I might be reading much into it. Maybe because, like many other faithful fans, I am vested in their story. Yesterday’s cliffhanger of an episode left me disappointed. It seems like the story arc is becoming less organic & more formulaic (to my consternation!). Nevertheless, it remains heartwarming and uniquely Pinoy. And I remain a faithful Aldub fan.
Thank you for giving many AlDub men a voice. Keep blogging. You got here a fan.

Wow!! What can I say, this is a man’s perspective of another man’s feeling. Something i may not be able to understand since i am woman. Though, I personally applauded Alden for being a gentleman enough by not releasing any comment that he likes Maine because he wants to maintain the support of the fandom. Instead, he avoided making a statement at all which bare his true feelings (?) And also for Maine not to expect too much since they really do not each other personally. But you know Vilo, there are two scenes that catches my attention : 1) fansign he made for Maine saying – kanta ka ba? Kasi feeling ko God gave me you. 2) friday episode before the date when Maine is dubmashing a song (after alisin nya ang tinga nya) during this time the came suddenly focused to Alden, pls tell me that tender look.
Thanks Vilo. Love reading your comments.

Yes. Lately andami times sya nahuhuli with that tender look on his face. Yung last FS nya last Saturday, from acting serious dahil umalis SI Maine, he suddenly wavered with a little sad smile and wrote, BUT IT WAS NICE SEEING YOU. When he mouthed, so nice, Yung face nya is full of longing. Talagang ndisappoint sya at nbitin.
The pivotal point for me was the kidnap ep when duhriZ took off his blindfold. That look on his face, it was so tender, it was priceless.
I for one is not hoping na agad agad maging bf gf n agad sila or for them to make it real asap. For me, Sa tamang panahon na answer nya must mean that be woud like to know her better first. After all they haven’t really form all met in person. If suddenly mgprofess na agad sya na Mahal nya SI Maine, hmm.. I would lose my respect for him. I see that he is inlove na in some ways, pero better pa din to see if it’s the lasting kind of just infatuation by knowing each other Better. Everything will fall into place in due time. Sa tamang panahon.

this is what my brother has been telling us the whole time. at first it was maine.. then alden wasnt responding the way maine expected. to which maine backed off a bit. and now that the tables have turned. alden is into her, and maine now has her guards on. alden has to prove his sincerity this time. if you could see that “pinagsakluban ng langit at lupa” look on maine’s face during their monthsary when she asked “seryoso ka ba talaga” or was it “panindigan mo yan ha” to which alden replied, “whats bound to happen blah blah blah”… friday and saturday, you could see that maine was being in character as yaya, while alden is already richard faulkerson jr. and last friday, lola nidora reminded yaya na “wag umasa, at pag nasaktan, iyak mo lang, tapos pahiran ang luha, tumayo ka ulet and be a better you…” my brother and his wife could not see the kilig feeling in maine anymore… it seemed like that “kilig” in maine last saturday was a just a “star struck” moment… oh well… the joys of being in showbiz but the hardest part is when things get real… GREAT READ by the way… thanks for the article. very well written! honestly, I’m for Maine because of her sincerity, I mean, just look at how genuine her emotions are. Maybe Alden is such a good actor that he can really sweep off a girl’s heart. But I pray not with Maine because she is so honest with her feelings for him to play with her. Although, JoWaPao (Jose, Wally, Paolo) kept reminding Maine that it is all but ‘aktingan’, still her eyes would always give her away.

That’s true. In the first place, Maine is really new in the business…she is very transparent of her feelings and the fact that everyone knows na crush Niya talaga si Alden. Alden is a gentleman, because as what mentioned in one of the comments here, he never mentioned in public that he likes Maine to keep the fans go nuts over them. But at the same time, I am not sure of Alden’s feelings, parang meron and pigil. And one more thing, it’s too early, they don’t really know each other, they never even talk to each other behind the camera. Maine is too young, she’s new in showbiz, I don’t really want her to get hurt. Hope she waits sa tamang panahon. She’s a beautiful girl, very young…if not Alden. I’m sure a perfect guy will come along at the right time.

Sometimes, realization hit us big time and the outcome is hurting ourselves deeply. I think he is in the same shoe right now but I’m hoping that this third person will not come their way. This person will be an instrument that M will be taking away from him. I don’t want to hear, read or see photos of him that he is crying because he is not able to do something. Also, in their 2nd Monthsary episode, both Maine and Alden did the “kilay up” without seeing each other in the monitor. That was the part where I almost fell off the chair and couldn’t contain myself, it was like I just saw a “SPARK” right at that moment.

Hi Vilo! This is the second blog that I read from you. I am happy to found your blog; I found a man’s perspective over these things. You got a new follower!
Now I was able to connect the emotions and the tweets of our reel-real protagonists. As an AlDub fan, the episode in which Lola Nidora asked Alden of his true feelings for Maine was a cliff-hanger. Ano kaya ang isasagot ni Alden? Then I thought I was the only one who was surprised by Maine’s tweet on “everybody should be calm and you two were just out there to make the fans happy”.
Now I know why Maine, on their second monthsary, had that confusing look on her face as she gets the roses one by one. And she left a fan sign question “Seryoso ka ba talaga?”. Unfortunately, it was no longer answered because Alden talked to the wildcard prize winner and fans swarmed him.
Why did Alden operated that way? Is it because 1) they really do not see each other and 2) being in a relationship is not his priority?
“Men usually use the same approaches when it comes to courtship. The most common of which is the giving of gifts.” – Yes, some ladies do fall for it. A few years back, I did. 🙂

Remember when Alden said “Ready na ako”? Sam asked him the next day on his ‘Laglagan war’ to clarify it. Alden said “Ready na ako na maghintay sa tamang panahon”. Which I took as he is ready to start courting (really getting to know) her. As we all know, the typical courtship takes a while.
I think, Alden is aware of how Maine feels for him, but he didn’t wanna give anyone the expectations/assumptions as much as possible. In fact, I noticed in his interviews, he keeps saying he would want to know her more and he thinks he is a fun person to be with. So he is really interested with her.
Hopefully, sooner they’d get that chance to actually talk outside of dubsmash.

Great blog Sir, a twitter post brought me here.
Anyway, in my opinion people shouldn’t really be expecting A to show emotions that he is so into maine and falling in lovw with her, for God sake they have not even given the chance to talk with each other privately, I mean you dont fall in love with somebody by what you saw on tv or read on the news. Me, I admire A even more and guess he is showing more respect for maine by not going along with what the people want, instead choosing to do how he really feels.Given the opportunity for this two to really get to know each other there is no doubt in my mind they are meant for each other. Let us not make them each others competitor, but lets make them realize how bless they are to find eachmother.

Honestly, I noticed that too. The time when he was asked if seryoso siya kay Maine and he hid behind the pillow refusing to answer a question. I was like, “Oh no, this was all for a show kay Alden. Hindi niya bet si Maine”. I got disappointed but I chose to stick to the idea na he thinks saying he likes Maine [instead of Yaya Dub] would somewhat ruin the flow of the serye, mawawalan na ng thrill and focus yung Kalyeserye kumbaga.
And then, as I was reading your blog, I was like, This blog would hit that part. The truth hurts, I didn’t know someone would notice that and would have the courage to talk about that, but you did. Alam mo yun, yung as a woman, if ako yung nasa lugar ni Maine and that happened, it would hurt big time, kahit pa show lang siya. I mean super kilig ko na, inaasar na hindi na ako umaarte and then ipapafeel niya sa’yo na he’s just acting. Pretending that he likes you. That would hurt, like real bad.
And yes, she drifted away. I was hoping she would, and she did. And as time goes by, it was Alden who’s pulling her back. His efforts, his fansigns, gifts, everything. He’s pulling her back and lately I notice how he looks at Maine. Feeling ko siya na yung mas nag fall eh. He looks at her differently and parang mas feel ko na he’s mas kinikilig kesa kay Maine. Mahirap iexplain. hahaha! But I think, the tables have turned. Yung staff ng EB, I think they noticed it too and they wanted to confirm kung ano ba talaga ang totoo na feelnigs ni Alden, it it’s just for the show or there’s so much more. But, yeah,I still like them, I never got so addicted like this sa isang LT. EVER.
Thank you for this blog/article. Thank you for noticing those facts and the changes. I really, really, really hope they’ll like each other because they like each other and not because the whole world wants them to.

Yes ma’am, I notice that too in the scene of their 1st date where Alden is about to grab the fansign board Maine has left on the long table, before Alden was about to write a message into it, his gestures were undeniably portraying heavy disappointment, that his eyes appear to be teary at that moment. That feeling a man cannot hide when it’s already pouring outside…..very heavy. So confirmed, Nicomaine got him there…

Thank you for this excellent, well-written and insightful article. Cheers!
Now, please allow me to share my 2-cents worth. First, I almost screamed when you mentioned how Maine regresses to “Yaya” in between episodes depending on what happened the day before coz I totally agree with you. The regressing happens not only with her live antics, but also in her fan signs. It happened the day of the Pili challenge (1st monthsary?), when Alden hid his face behind the pillow to avoid answering a direct question, “seryoso ka ba kay, Maine?”. The day after Maine tweeted that they were all doing their best to make the episodes fun (paraphrasing), which Alden RT’ed, she kind of held back on her fan signing after that and in her tweets as well. Feeling ko nga, napagalitan sila pareho, for making it too “real” or baka sina Parents Dub mismo nasabihan si Maine.
Second, unlike you, I was disappointed with Alden after Saturday’s episode. The “It was nice seeing you…” sign didn’t do it for me, coz it was borrowed from Maine. Sorry, but I was expecting to read something new. Perhaps, Alden is not that expressive but I’ve noticed how he answers to questions in his live interviews, and he is well-spoken. So I’m seeing an inconsistency there. Or perhaps, he really doesn’t wish to make ligaw sa “kalye” and he is truly doing ninja moves on the side, like the first box of Mik Mik and Haw Haw (Aug. 1) that came from left field. I resign myself to the belief that walang maingay na Ninja, haha, and there are things happening behind the scenes that we still don’t know of. Because, until now, it still amazes me how the 2 were able to get the 1st question, “Babe, love or honey”, correctly. Even my husband and I would have gotten that wrong after we had dated for a month. Pero sila, nakuha nila, and Maine had that look that seemed to say, if you get this wrong, lagot ka. That had a probabibility of 67% being wrong, and still they got it right. Coincidence or not? P.S sorry for the loooong entry.

Just wanted to say thanks for this blog. Love it! Very well-articulated. Love reading the insightful comments too! 🙂
Another pahabol comment:
While watching today’s epi (10th weeksary) I noticed that, once again, Maine wasn’t her usual giddy self. She still looked lovely and funny, for sure, pero parang half-hearted na lang ang mga responses nya kay Alden. Usually very attuned sya kay A. She used to even initiate their pabebe waves and steal kisses. But lately it’s like her heart isn’t in it. Parang she’s just going with the flow. For example, kanina towards the end of KS she didn’t complete their exchange of flying kiss. Usually she makes sure she catches every kiss from A and then touches her cheek giddily. But this time, she didn’t. Either she has her guard up or her feelings for A is slowly fizzling. (I could be wrong and reading too much into it but that’s just my opinion)
Also, she doesn’t seem kilig sa mga pick-up lines ni Alden. At least not anymore. Kulang na lang magroll-eyes sya. I don’t blame her. Pick up lines are so insincere and lame. And parang insulting to intelligent women like her. Even more so when Alden writes “Psssst!” to get her attention. Really, dude? Psssst?
One last thing, I know JoWaPao are protective of Maine and here’s something that I’ve been noticing. Every time Maine reverts to being giddy, Jose would jokingly say “wag mong kamutin”. Is that his way of saying ignore the itch (kilig feeling)? Kasi maybe she might get carried away again? I don’t know. Any insight as to what it means?

Yah! Alden is so lucky to have Yayadub in his life and will be blessed more with Maine Mendoza. Para sa akin, as lalaki also, Maine Mendoza is a gem. I’ve never been a fan of any actress, but Maine is kinda cool and genuine. Nah, I barely know Maine of course, but siya yung tipong babae na iti-treasure mo. Sana nga lang even di sila magkatuluyan ni Alden, mananatili silang mabuting magkaibigan kasi they really looked good together like they compliment each other. I can’t find another male actor for Maine.

Last Saturday I was one of the millions of fans that was left hanging and boy was I mad! I was in full blown fury that my husband even offered to take me out shopping hoping that the gesture would calm me down. LOL But of course reason took over and when I finally cooled down I watched the replay to console myself.
These are my observations:
1. At the beginning of EB when Pauline wanted to see how Maine is doing with the preparation, when everyone else was looking at the camera, Alden was already looking at the screen. Was he too excited to see Maine?
2. When the cam was on Maine while her tiny white car was approaching Broadway, the look on Alden’s face while he was looking at her screen was “something else” according to my brother who is not “yet” a fan.
3. From the start of when they faced each other, he couldn’t take his eyes off of her.
Oh and by the way, in KMJS last night, when asked by Jessica if “pang kalyeserye lang ba ‘to or may iba nang nararamdaman?” Alden was horrible in masking his emotions to which my brother again said “Manang, he’s in love with her.”

I agree with your observations. Parang this time around, it was Alden who got it real bad. Parang siya na ang hindi umaarte, I’m not sure– we’re not sure if aware siya or hindi, but his facial expressions, darn, those expressions gave him away. Iba na siya tumingin kay Yaya or kay Maine. Something more. There’s so much more to how he looks at Maine and kung pano siya kiligin. Infairness, mahirap iexplain.

This is what the writerd and staff wanted all along. They want A to pursue M. That’s why they cut the date, only the staff and M knew about it. Check how the 3 sisters startled when the alarm sounded. Have u seen Ms post about watching the replays? “Kinikilig ako for Yaya Dub and Alden”. Like she was not there. If A wouldve read it, it’s like deep inside your tummy goes on a roller coaster ride! She wants to test A, she wants to that romantic chase. She wants the chivalry from the 80s movie, and this time she has the power to direct it.

He is just playing his part. But good thing Wally and Jose knows how to be protective of M. But help me out with this one. Yes I saw that and was heartbroken.
But I had a conversation with fellow fans earlier and someone pointed out that Maine originally wrote the same exact quote in her twitter on 8/21/15.
For me, Alden was only reiriterating what Maine said and at the same time his way of not answering directly because he don’t know what to say which is typical for men, right?
I may be wrong though.. 😁

Hi I’m a guy and I agree with you here and there but not totally. I on the other hand want alden return to being the bae. To hold back more instead of wearing his heart on his sleeves. Kilig is there and it’s ok. But let’s try to understand from their perspective. You are bein paired up with someone you haven’t had the chance to peronally talk to yet. So i think they are just bein safe as to handling their emotions (or alden is for the matter). At the end of the day, it’s not the millions of fans who will be in the relationship, but the 2 of them. Let’s just wait and see if this blossoms into something else off cam. It will be disspointing if it seems that they went in ahead just for the kilig factor or the mere pressure of them looking good together coz of good chemistry. Let’s hope and pray that when they get to know each other, they’ll be in it because they want to and in it for the long term. 😀 who doesn’t love a good old fashioned love story? 🙂

Hello. I agree with some of your points and as someone who likes to keep things compartmentalized, it really is a big step for me to even say I like watching AlDub.
Like you said, as a guy, we can see how the guy moves and relate it to our own personal experiences. I can see how Alden keeps expectations tempered while Maine, such a silly girl (I’m her fan and I’m protective), really wears her heart out on her sleeve. The interaction after her wildcard prize was given out to the lola in which Alden put Maine on the spot by saying “Edi Ngayon Na”. Balls on the guy. Haha. But somehow reeling it back in with his latter replies. Maine asking after the freeze, “Seryoso ka ba talaga” made me really think of their relationship dynamics. I get the feeling that Alden always keeps thinking at the back of his head, “Relax. Actingan lang to” whilst Maine forgets it’s acting and dives head in, heart first.
To me, what he is doing is he’s giving himself room to move in. To hold back or to dive in. I don’t know if it’s his “written character” or himself but he places himself in a safe spot by not diving in and playing coy about his feelings. As a fan of Maine, I’m thinking “Just commit” but as a guy I can understand where he’s standing from. I won’t delve into details but personally I think it will still be a while before I can say, “Ok he’s now on equal footing with Maine on letting their feelings show”.

Very sharp! I’ve been noticing the hesitation too. In fact, there are many moments when my heart would go out to Maine. The AlDub fever began with her “real feelings”. It is anchored on that “crush”. How do you draw the line between the “real feelings” (that which gives Kalyeserye its bouyancy, and “aktingan lang ito uy”). When it becomes dangerous it becomes “aktingan”? I must admit that for a time, I was suspicious of this situation’s sincerity for Maine. Remember when she thought Alden would wait for her in Broadway? That time he promise he would wait? In the beginning of that episode she was back to her frisky, crazy yaya character, throwing non-comittal lines at Alden — and then, she writes a note (and even the manner on how she wrote it showed a certain dissapointment): “Nag promise ka…pumunta ako sa Broadway, wala ka!” And before this little “tampo” could move further on National TV, Lolo Nidora intervenes. That episode confirmed for me the confusion of feelings. Maine is a “pessimist” — her blog confirms it verbatim. You can sense she’s a girl who knows how it is to be hurt by love. Remember too when Maine said: “Paalam ka muna sa tatay ko. Kay Dodong?” In her tweet she reminds her siblings:”Kay Dodong…ano tatay niyo rin? Aktingan lang ito uyyy!” (as if reminding herself of that truth, guarding her feelings not to go overboard). I can’t blame her.
I can’t blame Alden though. — I wouldn’t want to be blackmailed by all the hype into a situation that fully deceives a girl. At the same time, I think he’s also filling his role as the ideal dream boyfriend for millions. Thats a tough place to be in. He is a gentlemen after all, but one who is learning great things with this experience as well — and that is to know when to love in front and behind the camera — and which one weighs more in his life as an actor and as a man.
In my heart I wish them well. There is a part of me that doesn’t want them hurt. I have come to love these two like special emotions inside that I enjoy, love to be with and call special (call that cheesy I don’t care). I hope that they grow beyond this phenomenon and that this shining moment in television will serve its purpose in propelling them to their dreams. One’s talent should be greater than one’s hype. I still think that whatever is real for both of them will not happen in front of the camera. Personally I wouldn’t want to push them together (for real) just for the entire world to see. A lot of couples who feel in love with the hype lost it all when the hype went away. It’s always safe to say “sa tamang panahon”.

Hello there, Another transparent piece you wrote Sir Vilo, you know sometimes it came into my mind to send Alden Richards a PM on Twitter. That is just to let him realize more how most men like me admire Nicomaine Dei Capili Mendoza. In the essence that she already captured Alden’s feelings (it was truly seen on His gestures and eyes). I am one of those who wants to push him to reveal his true feelings even in front of million people, because I think once He do that, Maine will be the Happiest Princess that we all have and cared for during this era. I know how Alden feels when to put guard up and put it down a little….’cause I’m a man also, captured also by Maine even we’re in the farthest distance than I can imagine. I’m only a fan, but He ( Richard Reyes Faulkerson, Jr. ) had the highest peak on Earth to show his fired-up feelings into Maine. How lucky they we’re set by time to be together, because like from what you said in your other article, Forever is not a destination, It’s a journey…… so as what they are having right now.

thanks for this nicely written blog.. i just want to ask your take on Sep 16 episode where the two were asked to answer questions to test their compatibility. Before the sinigang/adobo ques., A seemed to be talking to someone in the studio, then, the question was asked, he didn’t answer right away (unlike with previous questions where he answered immediately), instead, he was staring at someone/something on the monitor and seemed disappointed. Same thing happened during the pancit/spag question, and this time, he talked to that someone again beside him and he looked at the monitor and so obviously annoyed. I read on twitterworld that he was pissed with the one Bernardo sitting beside L Tidora and whose hand was very near YD’s back… i don’t know if i just imagined it.

Your observations are quite true. I’m also playing with the same game before I married my wife. I’m always telling my teenage daughter that it is a defensive mechanism of a guy trying to be sure that the girl he is eyeing for has also feelings with him.
But one thing I’m sure of with Alden (and just like me). Once they have each other’s arms. He will fall to Maine definitely that he doesn’t have the stregnth to rose from his feet.
Alden. Maine is very beautiful and true in her emotions, may breeding, simple and doesn’t hide her trueself. Alden is just holding back his feelings because of priorities…
1. CAREER

3. STILL NOT READY FOR A RELATIONSHIP
4. (I heard) HE HAS A GF

6. MAYBE FOR HIM, EVERYTHING IS ACTINGAN LANG TALAGA (let’s always remember that he is an actor and just doing his job)

I agree po! Because of Kalyeserye & Aldub, we’re back to being the Filipinos that we’re suppose to be. Waiting for the “Tamang Panahon”, following the elders and prioritizing them before love, yes, respect for women and living up to our own words and promises. This serye taught us, well, brought us back to our roots. And we don’t talk about it just so we have something to talk about it. We talk about it, because it’s worth talking about. They show the characteristics/traits that the Filipinos have been losing as time goes by.

Thank you for this! I’m a woman but somehow I share the same observations. Just to add – from a woman’s perspective, I feel that Maine seems to have learned from the first “let-down” and has started to guard her feelings. I say – GOOD FOR HER! That ‘Kahapon ka pa ha!’ reply to Alden’s ‘Kanina ka pa ba nakaupo? Baka gusto mo…tayo na lang’ confirmed it for me. And boy was I happy she wrote that pambasag FS. I literally jumped with delight and exclaimed, you go girl!
I am still not sure re: Alden’s real intentions for trying to ‘win her back’. There’s nothing in the world I would want more than him realizing he really wants her. But he did mess up, so as a fan I should have a teeny-weeny bit of allowance to doubt him – yes? First, because, as every doubter out there says – he’s an actor and he can act real good. Second, this is the most successful he has ever been in his showbiz career, and it just makes sense to me that he’d protect it at all costs. Maine could very well decide to quit showbiz overnight if she wants to, but Alden still needs her to stick to this love team for obvious reasons. ‘Alden sensed she was beginning to drift away’…and Alden beginning to wear his heart on his sleeve as a response could be a career move, or a romantic move, perhaps both. I hope it’s either the second or third option.
And while Alden is starting to wear his heart on his sleeve, I can sense that Maine is starting to guard hers. She should, she got burned once. Until the day Alden officially asks her out on a date in real life, if I were Maine, I wouldn’t be too ‘all-out’ either. 🙂

Love…love.. your observation from a man’s point of view. Everytime I watch Kalyeserye, my eyes are intently focused on Alden trying hard to interpret every body language, fan signs, the way he dubmashed, his stares… Just like a lot of other keen observers, I get this cocktail of emotions coming from him. There are days where I’m convinced maybe he’s finally letting his guards down just to get crushed the next time. Should this turn into a one way street for Maine, I personally am not too worried for her, guaranteed she’ll be hurt but she’s only 20 years old, hell she’ll recover in no time. I do have this good instinct that she’s destined to be a big star in which suitors will emerge left and right. My biggest worry is more for Alden, I wouldn’t want him to utter the excruciating phrase ” the one that away”.

In the 2nd Monthsary episode, when the lola who got M’s prize in the Bulaga Pa More said “sana magkatuluyan kayo” M said “Sana” to which A answered “E di ngayon na.” M replied back “Sabi mo yan a” followed by “9/16/15 2:15pm.” I love M’s quirky yet very cute and heartfelt quip. I’m not embarrassed to say I felt like a teenage girl giggling all over my spine down to the smallest hair in my body. Until I read A’s response. Rather than giving M a direct response to this, A just answered a quote. “What’s meant to be blah blah.” M’s facial expression upon reading that: I dunno probably hurt, disappointment, frustration. Not to be sexist but A should be the one pursuing and M should be the one telling A to wait sa tamang panahon. By the way, I don’t see anything wrong with a girl expressing her feelings for a guy and a girl should NEVER be looked down upon by doing so. But when a guy likes a girl so much, and the girl expresses the same interest, the natural instinct of the guy is to be more assertive in pursuing the girl. It’s rather odd that the guy chose to pull back when he had that opportunity.
Poor M must be having an emotional whiplash (ala Bella Swan) at the moment. She probably can’t figure out A (other than actingan lang). One of, if not the most, appealing part of Kalyeserye is the candidness we see in M’s emotions. When she smiles, everyone who watches can’t help but smile with her. When we see her as being in love, we feel we are in love as well.
The lecture of Lola Nidora to yaya “wag umasa” during the table manners episode – I don’t know it seems a hugot line to me.
A’s probably a nice guy everyone says so and most likely true. I know ‘actingan’ lang ang Kalyeserye but everyone sees M’s sincerity it passes through out of our tv sets. M’s very expressive in the split screen moments with A. But everytime she sees him in person, she can’t look at him straight in the eye. That’s why we are sensing she has feelings for him. We’ve all experienced that when we see the person we have feelings for it’s really difficult to look at them probably because we don’t want them to see through us. During the first date, M kissed A’s picture in one of the bases. But when she saw him in person at the last base, she can’t even take a peek. During their meal, M can’t stand the stare A was giving her while she was dubsmashing.
In fairness to A, I felt he was really depressed when the first date ended abruptly. Who knows after that date, things will get even better especially the MMFF is coming up. My good man, I understand this is a show and I will continue to watch and join the AlDub nation in making history. You’re a great actor and a good person. I trust that our pambansang bae will be true to our queen of dubsmash.

Hi, yung sa part na nagtakip ng unan si Alden nung Monthsary nila, I think it makes sense what he did naman. I don’t think it is right for him to answer that question on live TV nor was it right for Wally to ask him that. I’m glad he didn’t answer that question just to please the fans. I think that was too personal to be answered on TV. Kumbaga, sa kanya/ kanila nalang ni M yun. They are not obliged to bare their feelings publicly like that. At the end of the say, it is still a show. It is very inappropriate naman kung talagang sinagot ni A yun. Maraming magdududa at magsasabing napakashowbiz ni A. So I really admired him for what he did. Pwede naman syang magpakashowbiz but he didn’t do that out of respect kay M as sa family nya. By the way may nakapagsabi na staff ng EB pala na nung nagtakip sya ng unan lumalim ang dimple nya side so talagang nagtimpi lang.
One more thing, nung nag FS si A ng ‘kasi feeling ko God gave me you’ that was a pivotal moment for me. May pinaghuhugutan yung FS na yun. Diba napakarandom at baduy na pickup line? So bakit? Dahil may gusto syang ipahiwatig!!!! For me, inacknowledge ni A dun na he believes that what has been happening is not random and meeting M is divine intervention and he wants M to ‘know’ this with that FS. I think over the past few months since he first met M I believe he has been able to put two and two together na hinde aksidente biglang dumating sa buhay nya si M. I think he started to realise this nung unang lumabas ang balita na they first met 5 years ago because that’s when his dynamics first changed. I think he is now acknowledging God’s hand on this and you know how very Godly he is. For me na rin, this was God’s way of proving something to him. You see, A is career over love talaga and he believe that makakasira lang and love life sa career nya. But this is God’s way of saying, you can in fact have both and I am giving it to you. In fact, with M umusbong at uusbongpa pa yung career nya. He is very grateful to God for M.
Anyway, mahirap talaga basahin si A. I think because he is really just a very SENSIBLE person at hinde nagpapadala ng bugso ng damdamin. Gustuhin ko man na magkatuluyan sila, I am also being realistic and not really counting on it. You see once they finally and personally get to know each other, pwedeng they will realise na magkaiba sila. Like M, I really don’t know her personality, what she is like and all. So far we have been forming our impressions of her by what we see on TV but we really don’t know what she is like and if they will be a good match. A lot of factors can come at play so it is hard to expect. So for me, I will just enjoy them nalang and not put too much pressure on them. Tayong mga fans, dapat chill lang. Let’s not pressure them at baka ikasasama nila.

I think God supports this tandem, and He’s doing things to make this work and blossom into something more. Even the Catholic Church supports the serye & the tandem because, maybe, God told them that this is indeed one of His favorite project. That He wants this tandem to get all the support & love that they can get to succeed. That this is the modern epitome of waiting, hoping and trusting Him for that perfect time, if not in real life, at least through the serye.
